A new clinic set to open will bring new services to families on Jacksonville's Southside.
Dr. Pauline Rolle with the Florida Department of Health in Duval County said starting Thursday, thousands of people will walk through the doors to fulfill a need that’s been missing for some time now.
“There are people on the Southside of town that lack access to immunization services,” said Rolle said.
The clinic will provide immunizations to help stop the spread of diseases.
“When people start to not get vaccinated, that’s when we see diseases like measles, mumps creeping back up. There are outbreaks of measles throughout the country, we seen that and we’re still seeing chickenpox,” said Rolle.
Rolle says vaccines are important to help the body recognize and fight the diseases like Whooping Cough, Measles, Mumps, Chicken Pox and Hepatitis B, just to name a few, but the key is getting your vaccines early.
“If I could say one thing, don't wait," said Rolle. "Every year we get hundreds to thousands of parents who wait the day before school, the week of school to get their kids vaccinated."
Rolle says the ‘Don’t Wait Rule’ also applies for college students and people traveling overseas.
The clinic will open up Thursday at 10 a.m.
Its hours are Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday of each month.
