ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Local travelers flying out of St. Augustine will soon have new flight options.
Right now crews are working to finish a new terminal for inaugural Frontier Airlines flights to and from Chicago and Philadelphia.
Bruce Maguire, who is a member of the St. Augustine-St. Johns County Airport Authority said it was a much needed addition.
“We determined we needed a larger more updated, more modern facility that really suited the passengers more so than anything else,” said Maguire.
Booming tourism in St. Augustine also has a lot to do with the renovations, said Maguire.

“We've become one of the hot spots throughout the country now. You've seen in several magazines and other literary functions that we are designated top 10 top, top five for whatever so we are definitely contributing to the desire for people to come,” said Maguire.
One of the more modernized features of the new terminal will include a better baggage handling system that’ll also help the flight crews.
Beginning this Thursday, a new flight from Chicago will land and then Friday a new flight to Philadelphia will take off.
“We're hoping that will catch hold with the other airlines so they might want to come in also and see if they consider direct flights,” said Maguire.
Airport officials are planning a news conference this Friday to celebrate those inaugural Frontier Airlines flights.
