JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating after an officer-involved shooting left a suspect dead on the city’s Westside.
At 6:44 p.m. Tuesday, police said they got a call about a robbery outside a business on Normandy Boulevard off Lane Avenue South.
When officers arrived, they saw the robbery victim pointing at the suspect, who police later identified as 26-year-old Darian Bryant. Police say he took off running to the Westwood Apartments.
When officers found Bryant, police say a struggle started. According to JSO, Bryant pulled out a gun and fired at officers. That’s when police returned fire -- killing him.

Neighbors told Action News Jax they weren’t allowed inside the apartment complex as officers searched for the suspect.
JSO searched the complex for about 45 minutes. Police said a witness called and believed the suspect was inside one of the apartment units.
Police made about 10 calls for the suspect to come out.
He did eventually and had his arms raised according to police, but as he approached officers, he decided to run off again.
JSO said he attempted to hop a fence, so an officer tried to cut him off with a patrol car.
Officers said the suspect fell onto the hood of the patrol car and a struggle ensued.
