OrangeTheory warns members after St. Johns smash and grabs

A popular fitness chain is warning its members after two women in St. Johns County left their workout classes to find their car windows smashed and purses gone.

The thefts were reported right after an early morning workout class between 5 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. on Friday, outside the Orangetheory Fitness location on County Road 210 in St. Johns County.

In both cases, the women walked out to the parking lot to find their front passenger windows shattered and their purses were gone.

One victim told deputies her social security card was in her purse when it was stolen.

“I wonder why they would leave it in there, to begin with. I always bring my purse with me in there. I guess they just think it’s a safe area, but obviously, it’s not,” said Orangetheory member Laura McKay.

Orangetheory sent an alert to its members across our area warning them to either bring in their purses and valuables or leave them in their trunks, especially during early morning classes.

The fitness chain told its members that similar thefts have happened outside of a few of its locations, but did not specify which other locations have been hit.
