Pedestrian hit during busy weekend at Jax Beach

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A bicyclist is expected to be ok after being hit while on the sidewalk in Jacksonville beach. A driver said it's the result of a left turn gone wrong that left this woman wedged between a car and a pole.

Sophia Lloyd and her friends were waiting with other bikers to cross 3rd Street in Jacksonville Beach, near Bold Bean coffee shop. Lloyd said a woman and her husband let several women cross ahead of them. Seconds later, one of those women was hit by a purple Hyundai Elantra.

"She let us go past." Sophia Lloyd said. "We could've been the one who just got hit."

We spoke off camera with another driver who was at the scene. He said he was heading south on 3rd Street when a driver on the other side of the road turned left. The driver we spoke to tried to swerve and ended up near a pole.

"They collided, and they pinned her up against the pole." Shari Lloyd said.

"Her whole leg was wrapped, and they're pumping fluid into her." Sophia Lloyd said.

This year, Jacksonville was classified as the 6th most dangerous metro area for pedestrians in the U.S., according to Smart Growth Area.

With the heavy traffic from the Sea and Sky Air Show, police urging drivers to be cautious.
