ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. — Neighbors are waking up to police tape after learning that a man was found dead in one Atlantic Beach neighborhood.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and Atlantic Beach Police were called out early Monday morning just after 5:00 a.m.
Action News Jax Alicia Tarancon the first reporter to arrive on the scene.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office told her when police arrived they found a man dead inside a home and they do suspect foul play.
“It appears he was stabbed several times. We’re treating this as an active homicide investigation,” Sgt. Adam Blinn with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.
Jeannie Chin has lived on Redfin Drive at least a decade and hasn’t seen anything like this on her street.
When she walked outside she noticed the police tape blocking off part of Redfin Drive and Sailfish drive.
“It was definitely alarming to see that because it’s such a quiet street and everyone knows everyone so you’re first fear does someone know, have they been hurt,” Chin said.
Chin said she’s waved to the neighbors that live inside the home but, but didn’t know them personally. She told me she believes they were renters.
“During a pandemic, we haven’t really gotten to see much of them just a “hi” and “bye,” and we were all really worried today because we know there’s a child living there,” she said.
As crime scene investigators combed the area for evidence police told us there was another person inside the home who made the 911 call and alerted police.
JSO told us that person is currently being interviewed by investigators and at this time there’s no information to suggest that this person is a suspect or that there’s any danger to the public.
Because this is a homicide investigation the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation instead of Atlantic Beach Police.
