Windy Hill Elementary School was on lockdown as precaution

Windy Hill Elementary School placed on lockdown as precaution, officials said.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating a loud noise Thursday morning in the Southside.

The police activity is near Windy Hill Elementary School.

The investigation involving JSO and the Duval County School Police temporarily placed the elementary school under a Code Yellow lockdown. The lockdown was placed as a precaution, according to Duval County Public School officials. Blessed Trinity Catholic School on Beach Boulevard is also on lockdown.

A code yellow lockdown means, in this case, there was a possible threat in the area and parents would have to be notified.

JSO said both schools were secured and students were safe.

JSO received reports around 7:30 a.m. of a loud noise, possibly gunshots in the area of Forest and Beach boulevards. Police are working to confirm if shots were fired.

JSO said two young men, possibly between 15 and 20 years old, were seen running from the area. Police were searching for the two in the area. It is not known if the two are involved.

No one was reported injured.

Anyone who has any information about the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS. You can remain anonymous and receive a possible reward of up to $3,000.
