Police investigating double carjacking in Brentwood area, suspect in custody

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating after an attempted carjacking on Basswood Street.

According to detectives, around 5 a.m., a domestic dispute occurred between a man and his mother. The incident escalated and the man tried to forcibly grab her car keys. However, he overpowered her, carjacked the vehicle and fled the scene in the car before crashing into a telephone pole.

He then left the car, made contact with another elderly woman on Woodbine Street and carjacked her vehicle.

The suspect left the area in the stolen car, and a short time later, patrol officers were able to locate, pursue and apprehend the suspect after he gave up to police.

Robbery detectives are conducting an ongoing investigation.
