Police: Shots fired at crowd of people in Fernandina Beach; Jacksonville man killed

NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. — 9:40 A.M. UPDATE: According to a police report, Zachary Jamison, has been arrested for murder following a shooting in Fernandina Beach Thursday night.

The shooting victim, Jovan Richo, was taken to UF Health in Jacksonville and died during surgery, authorities said.

Action News Jax has learned new information regarding the incident. According to a family member of Richo that police spoke with, was standing on Elm Street with two other family members when they were approached by a group of females.

A verbal altercation ensued in which one of the family members tried to deescalate. The family member told police they saw a dark gray car with dark tinted windows approached them and Jamison, whom the family member knew, opened the passenger door pointing a gun at them.

The family member said Jamison began shooting and said they heard Richo say, "I've been shot."

Jamison is being charged with second-degree murder, according to the Fernandina Beach Police Department.

Police in Fernandina Beach are working to learn why a man fired shots into a group of people.

The shooting happened south of 9th Street and Elm Street just after 7 p.m. Thursday.

Officials said there was a dispute which led to an armed confrontation before at least four shots were fired from a vehicle into a crowd of people.

Police said Jovan Richo,42, of Jacksonville, was the only person hit by the gunfire and is seriously hurt.

Police spoke to several witnesses who identified the alleged gunman as Zachary Jamison, 32.

Deputies in Nassau County went to his home and took him into custody for questioning.
