Police searching for suspect who shot another driver on I-295

The Jacksonville sheriff’s office is searching for the gunman who opened fire on the interstate.

Action News Jax crime and safety expert Ken Jefferson said this is going to be a difficult investigation.

He said officers are relying on the public’s help to track the shooter and they are asking for witnesses to come forward.

A man was rushed to the hospital after being found in this car on I-295 North.

Police said he was shot in the back when another driver opened fire on the interstate.

“Oh Jesus. That’s really scary,” driver Michaela Lane said.

Police said the bullet went through the trunk of the vehicle, traveled through the car and hit the victim in the back.

“Broad daylight, it’s crazy out here,” driver Tyler Ellis said.

The crime scene unit was at the exit ramp with officers investigating as the area was taped off.

“It’s very concerning, 'cause I mean, you leave out of your house in the morning and you never know if you’re going to get back home at the end of the day,” Lane said.

While police haven’t confirmed if it's road rage, drivers said that’s what it sounds like.

“Road rage is becoming more and more a problem; nobody don’t want to take the time to be nice to each other anymore,” Lane said.

The victim said the shooter was in a gray or silver Cadillac.

Police said they don’t know if the suspect and victim know each other.
