Ponte Vedra Beach teen hit by car while skateboarding dies

A 17-year-old who was hit by a car while skateboarding in St. Johns County has died from his injuries.

Hunter Dudley of Ponte Vedra Beach was skateboarding on US 1 near Pine Island Road Tuesday morning when a van hit him.

Troopers say the van hit him after he veered into traffic at approximately 7:15 a.m.

The driver of the van gave Dudley CPR after hitting him.

He was taken to UF Health Jacksonville in critical condition. He died Tuesday afternoon, troopers said.

Dudley was a student at Ponte Vedra High School. Crisis counselors are at the school Wednesday.
