PONTE VEDRA, Fla. — St. Johns County deputies were dispatched to Landrum Middle School in Ponte Vedra on Friday, June 21 after reports of approximately 20 homesless people wandering in the woods. Upon arrival, a deputy attempted to call suspect, James Jay Donovan, 40, out of the woods, when he began wielding a gun, SJSO says.
After deputies told him to put down the gun for the third time, Donovan placed the gun into his right front pocket. Deputies were then able to disarm him and put him in handcuffs.

Upon searching Donovan, they also found a small plastic baggy with a white susbtance inside which later tested positive for cocaine. A "marijuana pipe," was confiscated as well, the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office reported.
Donovan was arrested on armed tresspassing charges and transported to the county jail.
The wooded area Donovan was in is owned by the St. Johns County School DIstrict. Donovan was well-aware he was on school grounds, according to a police report.
