CSX released the following statement:
“Just before 6 a.m. today, a CSX train struck a school bus that was on the tracks at the Timuquana Road Crossing near Roosevelt Blvd. Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and Fire and Rescue responded and they informed us there were no students on the bus, and the driver and driver’s aid received minor injuries. We see this too often across our network. At CSX safety is a core value, and that includes the safety of drivers who cross our tracks every day. With this week being National Rail Safety week, we urge drivers to be more aware of their surroundings at railroad crossings. As a part of this national campaign, this week CSX Police and the Florida Highway Patrol conducted crossing blitzes along Roosevelt Boulevard. Today’s incident underscores the importance of raising awareness around rail safety.”
