JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville woman is warning others about a potential scam that uses fake cash to district a driver during a robbery.
Victoria Joiner said she was with her husband at Winn-Dixie off Beach Boulevard Sunday when they found a strange object on her car.
Joiner said looked like a roll of cash, placed under the windshield wiper.
“We unrolled it, it was a long piece of paper that had a wax coating on it,” Joiner said. “Then it was tucked in to some newspaper that were shredded to match the length.”

She said it didn’t have any listings for advertisements. So they thought it was a scam. Once she posted a picture of it to social media, others warned her it could be used as a distraction during a potential robbery.
“With the holidays coming up, people see a wad of money they’re not thinking anything. They grab it and they may sit in their car and try to unroll it while they’re waiting, especially if they’re by themselves. Then someone could easily come up and rob them,” Joiner said.
Action News Jax reached out to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office to learn if they have heard of this potential scam.

The public information officer responded Monday evening and said:
"I have not been made aware of this scenario being a scam or a potential set-up."
Action News Jax reporter Elizabeth Pace also called the Better Business Bureau of Northeast Florida.
A spokesperson said he has heard of similar set-ups in the past, but not using fake cash like in this situation.
He also said Black Friday is when they start to see a significant spike in scams.
They said the most common are online where scammers try to sell consumers fake children’s toys.
