Putnam County sheriff warns of school athletics sponsorship scam

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office is warning people about scammers pretending to be part of the Putnam County School District.

According to a social media post, scammers are calling residents and claiming to sell sponsorship spots on t-shirts to support PCSD Athletic Teams.

School officials said the scammers could claim to be a marketing or sports advertising company with connections to Putnam schools.

They will often require immediate payment for sponsorship packages.

According to officials, the scammers don’t know specific information about the schools. Calls are originating from out-of-state numbers.

You should verify sponsorship requests directly with your school. Also, be cautious of unsolicited calls or emails requesting payment.
