FHP: Man in critical condition after evening motorcycle crash in Putnam County

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — A man is in critical condition after crashing his motorcycle on U.S. 17 in Putnam County Sunday evening.

According to the crash report from Florida Highway Patrol, the 55-year-old man from Deland, Florida was traveling southbound on U.S. 17 north of Vernon Road. Witnesses said he was traveling at a high rate of speed moments before the accident.

For an unknown reason, the driver lost control just north of the intersection, and it overturned onto its left side as it continued traveling northbound.

The driver was transported to Gainsville UF Health Shands Trauma Center and remains in critical condition.
