PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — Putnam County is the newest county in Florida to become a Second Amendment sanctuary county.
Commissioners passed a resolution in Putnam County unanimously Tuesday morning that would make the county a Second Amendment sanctuary county.
It means Putnam County would reject any state or federal gun laws it perceives to violate the Second Amendment.
Many experts say sanctuary resolutions are largely symbolic and not legally binding.
Susan Warneka lives in east Palatka.
She believes the commissioners made the right decision.
“Several people in my family, not all in this area, have concealed weapon permits and are gun owners and I totally believe in that right,” Warneka said.

County commissioners said the Tuesday commission meeting was packed, with more than 300 people attending and others waiting in the lobby and even in the parking lot.
“I would say 99% were in favor of it. Some people had some concerns about (whether) it really (had) any teeth in it. I mean there’s no doubt that if the federal government wanted to come down and create havoc, they can do it in any community, but I think we sent a message today and our sheriff did also that he is fully in support of the Second Amendment,” said Larry Harvey, Putnam County District 4 commissioner.
Warneka said guns help protect people, she’s planning on getting one soon.
"I've been planning on getting a concealed weapon permit myself and going to classes for it," she said.
Action News Jax reported last year when Clay County commissioners signed a resolution to make Clay County a Second Amendment sanctuary county.
Several other Florida counties have passed similar resolutions.
