COVID-19 vaccine: Department of Health in Putnam County closes vaccine registrations temporarily

PALATKA, Fla. — UPDATE 3/3/2021: The Florida Department of Health in Putnam County announces changes to those who can be vaccinated. Starting 3/3/2021 appointments are available for the following:

  • • K-12 school employees 50 years of age and older (new)
  • • Sworn law enforcement officers 50 years of age and older (new)
  • • Firefighters 50 years of age and older (new)
  • • Long-term care facility residents and staff (existing)
  • • Persons 65 years of age and older (existing)
  • • Health care personnel with direct patient contact (existing)

In addition to hospital providers, physicians licensed under chapters 458 and 459, Florida Statutes, may also vaccinate persons whom they deem to be extremely vulnerable to COVID-19.

UPDATE 1/13/2021: The Florida Department of Health - Putnam County issued the following update about its vaccination process for those aged 65 and older:

“The Department of Health in Putnam County has temporarily closed registration for the vaccine due to signups exceeding the department’s initial 10,000 registrations cap.

“If you have already pre-registered please be patient as we will continue scheduling appointments as more vaccine becomes available to Putnam County. If possible we will re-open registration once the first group of 10,000 registrants complete their vaccinations.”

In the future, the Putnam County Emergency Operations Center will be using the PutnamAlert.com system (caller ID # will reflect 88911) to send text messages to County residents with information about the vaccination effort and a link for registration, consent/screening and vaccine information forms. If citizens are concerned they may have received a form of spam, they can call (386) 329-1904 (option #1) and speak with a call taker.
