Quintessential winter weather returns, Jags kickoff clear and cool

Jacksonville, Fl — After the mid-week cold front brought storms and much-needed rain to NE Florida, skies have cleared, humidity dropped, and temperatures returned to near average.

Sunny skies will prevail today and highs will be in the mid and upper 60s. Action News Jax Chief Meteorologist Mike Buresh says winds will be calm the next several days. Tonight into Saturday will be the coldest period of this stretch of winter with morning lows in the upper 30s to low 40s with a bit of inland frost near or west of U.S. 301.

Saturday will be mostly sunny and really nice overall. Temperatures climb to near 70 degrees before gradually falling into the 50s during the Jaguars tailgate, and eventually to the 40s during the AFC South Championship game at TIAA Bank Field. Extra layers may be necessary for the game.

Victory Sunday (we hope!) will be gorgeous and sunny with temperatures in the low 70s. Back to work and school on Monday remains mild and pretty. Our next chance for rain comes on Tuesday with increasing clouds and a few afternoon showers.

The front that plowed through this Wednesday produced two confirmed tornado touchdowns in Southeast Georgia. An EF-1 with winds between 86 and 110 mph in Bristol, Ga., Pierce Co. – about 100 miles north/northwest of Jacksonville.

Another tornado, an EF-0, was confirmed in Charlton County - about 55 miles north-northwest of Jacksonville.
