Rep. Cammack: Over 187 people from Jacksonville area stuck in Afghanistan

Jacksonville, Fl — Saying the August 31 deadline must be extended, NE Florida Representative Kat Cammack claims it’s not feasible to safely evacuate all Americans from Afghanistan.

“We have over 187 constituents from our district alone, the Jacksonville area, that are stuck in country and we have been working to get them home”, Cammack told Jacksonville’s Morning News.

On Sunday, Cammack says a family of five was safely evacuated. Her office did not elaborate on the evacuations, citing sensitivities as they work with the State Department.

Cammack, who sits on the House Homeland Security Committee, says she has attended multiple briefings and it’s not feasible to get every American and ally out, no matter how much they pick up the pace.

“There’s definitely going to be some even greater challenges than what we’re facing but for right now we’re focused on getting all of our Americans out immediately”, Cammack said.

Members were not advised about the CIA Director’s meeting on Monday with the Taliban. She expressed frustration at what she calls a broken, cohesive messaging at the administrative level.
