Report: Terry Parker student put loaded gun table in classroom

Tyquan Solomon, 18

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Terry Parker High School student places a loaded gun concealed in a folder on a table in a classroom.

We first told you Friday about the gun, one of two incidents that day where guns were seized from a local school campus. At the time, Duval County Public Schools confirmed a student was taken in to custody, but no further details were immediately available.

We’ve now confirmed 18-year-old Tyquan Solomon has been arrested for possession of a firearm on school property.

Solomon’s arrest report says the Principal of the school ordered a random search of the art room because of a “verbal altercation between several students.” The Principal told police she saw Solomon move a blue folder from his lap to a table top when he was told to move to another area of the room to be searched. When the Principal looked in the folder, she found the gun.

The report says the gun was loaded with seven live rounds. Solomon claimed a non-Terry Parker student had threatened to kill him, so he was afraid.

An adult witness in the room told police she saw Solomon take something from his pocket and put it in the folder, but couldn’t see at the time what it was.

On Friday, DCPS also confirmed several people were taken in to custody after they were stopped trying to get on to Ed White High School and a gun was found in the car. DCPS says that investigation is still ongoing.
