JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A retired corrections officer with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has been arrested in connection with the shooting of his wife, officials said..
Irish Andrews, 52, faces one count of aggravated domestic battery with a deadly weapon. The arrest report said police responded to a home on Weeping Branch Circle Monday night to the report of a shooting and found a woman had been shot multiple times. Her injuries are considered life-threatening.
One adult child and one minor child were in the home at the time of the shooting, according to JSO.
The arrest report said Andrews told responding officers where his gun was and that he is retired JSO when they got to the home Monday night.
WOKV has since confirmed with JSO that Andrews is a retired corrections officer. We're working to learn more about how long he was employed and when he retired, but we have confirmed Andrews was honored for 25 years of service during a 2015 Meritorious Awards Ceremony.
JSO said Andrews was interviewed, but Andrews’ arrest report does not indicate whether he said anything about what led up to the shooting.
Andrews’ mug shot is exempt from public release because of his status as a retired officer.
