Team Jartoman created an emotional short film that pulled at the heartstrings and made you want to phone your parents to tell them you loved them. The film was about grief and loss and was titled “Threshold.”

The team competed in the past (for 11 years) and won in their city of Jacksonville a total of 3 times. The first US team to win overall in over a decade.

You may be wondering what is the 48 Hour Film Project? It is a wild and sleepless weekend in which teams make a movie - write, shoot, and edit - in just 48 hours. On Friday night, teams draw a genre and are given a character, prop and line to be included in their film. On Sunday night, in a wild dash to the drop off event, the film is turned in and teams celebrate. Winners of each city go on to Filmapalooza to compete for a spot in the Short Film Corner at the Cannes Film Festival in France.

The Jacksonville 48 Hour Film Project City Producers are Adam and Monique Madrid.

Team Jartoman traveled over 2,000 miles to Los Angeles to compete at Filmapalooza and won Grand Champion on March 18, 2023 which means their film will go on to screen at Cannes in May 2023. They also won Audience Choice and were nominated for Best Director, Best Cinematography, and Best Writing.

This win is not only career changing for the filmmakers involved but it also brings a beautiful spotlight to the talented film community that continues to expand in Jacksonville, Florida.

In honor of this historic win, the city of Jacksonville has made a proclamation that May 15, 2023 is “Jax 48 Hour Film Project Day”. The proclamation will be announced at The Jessie at 6pm on the same day.

The local film community, public supporters and media are invited to celebrate this momentous occasion.
