Several fights, gunfire broke out at 4th of July gathering in Arlington

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded to a shooting this evening in Arlington.

The Sheriff's Office said several fights broke out at a 4th of July gathering on Kona Avenue.

A few people left and came back with guns, according to JSO. Several shots were fired and a man, 18, was struck in the hand, JSO said.

The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening and police don’t know if the man injured is a victim or suspect.

Action News Jax spoke with a father who lives up the street.  He said he’s never heard of something like that happening here.

“It’s pretty scary,” Tyrice Hamer said.  “I’m kind of cautious about [my son] coming outside. It happened right down the street, and it doesn’t normally happen, so I don’t know if it’ll happen again.”
