Some of Jacksonville's bridges could be closed during Hurricane Matthew

With a major hurricane bearing down on Florida, a key question is ...

Will Jacksonville's bridges, so vital for movement around town, be closed due to high winds?

During Hurricane Hermine a few weeks ago, city leaders said the Dames Point Bridge, the Hart Bridge and Mathews Bridge will likely be the first to close if necessary.

Sustained winds would need to reach over 40 mph for a bridge closure to be ordered.

It is extremely hazardous to drive on any bridge during high winds, but storm-force winds can send any car off the road -- and off the bridge.

Action News Jax will send out an alert as soon as any bridge is closed. If you want to receive key weather alerts during Hurricane Matthew, download our free app by clicking here.
