PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — A St. Augustine woman has been arrested a year after troopers said she was involved in a DUI crash that killed her SUV’s passenger, records show.
Stachelle Powell, 31, was booked into the Putnam County Jail on Wednesday, the sheriff’s office’s jail log shows.
The arrest stems from a crash that happened just after 1 a.m. on Dec. 1, 2020, in Putnam County, according to a Florida Highway Patrol crash report.

The report stated that Powell was driving her SUV southbound on State Road 207 near Wildwood Lane when it veered off the roadway into a ditch and overturned. Her passenger, Michael McKnight, 31, of St. Augustine, was ejected and pronounced dead shortly after.
FHP said Powell was under the influence at the time of the crash, according to the report.
Powell faces a felony DUI manslaughter charge, and two misdemeanors: DUI and driving with a suspended license, according to jail logs.

A spokesperson told Action News Jax: “The arrest was just made due the time of the investigation, review process by State Attorney’s Office, and submission of warrant. Once warrant obtained, the subject can then be arrested on these charges.”
