St. Johns County holding sustainability workshops in celebration of Earth Week

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — In celebration of Earth Week, the City of St. Augustine will host sustainability workshops on Tues., Apr. 18 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. These events will take place at the Galimore Center, 399 Riberia St.

The public is invited to attend the following workshops, for free:

  • Sustainability in the city at 9 a.m. - Lean about the City’s sustainability initiatives including: recycling, residential composting, Tree Canopy Enhancement Program and more. This workshop will be presented by City of St. Augustine Utilities Department
  • Water Conservation at 10 a.m. - Learn why water conservation matters and steps you can take in your home and within your landscape to save water. This workshop will be presented by St. Johns River Water Management District
  • Composting Basics at 11 a.m. - Learn the basics of composting: types of compost bins, ingredients to use/avoid, and steps for backyard composting. This workshop will be presented by St. Johns County Master Gardener Volunteer

Recycling

Continuing the celebration of Earth Week, the City of St. Augustine will be holding a recycle event at the solid waste facility on Apr. 21. Residents will have the opportunity to shred documents (5 box limit per City of St. Augustine resident), recycle outdated or broken electronics, and the chance to dispose of used cooking oil.

The city says no TVs, hazardous waste, or motor oil will be accepted.

Accepted outdated and broken “E-waste” includes the following:

  • Laptops
  • Complete PCs
  • Towers
  • Hard drives
  • Memory chips
  • CD drives
  • Cell phones
  • Cell phone charges
  • Various batteries
  • And much, much more...

This recycling event will be held at 601 Riberia St.

Throughout the year, the City of St. Augustine accepts recyclable materials daily during regular business hours. Residents may take e-waste to the solid wastewater treatment plant located at 601 Riberia St. and cooking oil to the wastewater treatment plant at 501 Ribera St.
