The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office said it responded to an incident in which a car crashed into a home Sunday morning.
The crash caused significant damage to the home, according to deputies. According to the deputies, the crash was intentional.
During the deputies' investigation, they discovered that the homeowner had another person with her at the home and the suspect, Darrin Dewayne Touchton, 58, "did not approve."
Touchton apparently saw the other man in the yard with a friend and sped his Nissan Maxima toward them in an attempt to kill the other man.
According to deputies, Touchton missed the two individuals by less than a foot.
The deputies also discovered during their investigation that Touchton previously made statements that he would kill the other man by hitting him with his car.
Touchton is currently charged with attempted homicide, three counts of aggravated assault and driving on a suspended license. He is in a hospital due to an unrelated issue related to the crash.
