St. Johns County announced Thursday that the Ocean and Fishing pier will reopen for fishing on Sunday, January 12th.
Charges will begin again for fishing and sight-seeing on the pier. As a courtesy, all annual fishing and sightseeing passes sold before the pier’s closure are being extended 7 months past their original expiration date.

The last 100 feet will remain closed until further notice while staff members do maintenance reviews. The county closed it off in August after discovering possible decay on the support pillars closest to the ocean.
All fishing was prohibited on the pier after a recent shoreline restoration project extended the beach so far that the pier no longer reached the water.
