ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — Deputies are investigating after a Georgia truck driver was shot while driving a semi-truck on Interstate 95 northbound in St. Johns County.
He and his girlfriend, Dorsi Simmons, stopped for help at the rest stop on I-95 northbound near the Duval-St. Johns county line. The shooting happened about five miles south of the rest stop, Simmons told Action News Jax’s Ryan Nelson.
Simmons said she was asleep inside the truck when she heard a commotion. Her boyfriend woke her up and told her to call 911 and he was later flown to a Jacksonville-area hospital.
The couple were on their way back home after making a delivery in Cocoa Beach. Simmons is asking the public to help the Sheriff’s Office find who did this.
“If anybody sees anybody out there, or somebody bragging about, they shot somebody going down the interstate, please let us know, let the Sheriff’s Office know,” Simmons said.
The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office said the suspects got away in a silver or gray car but didn’t have any other information.
Action News Jax’s Ryan Nelson is in the area gathering more information. He will have LIVE updates beginning on CBS47 & FOX30 Action News Jax at 5.
