ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — UPDATE 11:35 P.M.:
The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office investigated a shooting at the corner of Christopher Street and Herbert Street on Wednesday night.
Deputies said they responded to reports of shots fired and discovered the victim’s vehicle crashed. The victim was taken to Flagler Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
SJSO had no suspect information but confirmed that there’s no threat to the community.
Shawn Alexander said her nephew’s girlfriend, a 30-year-old mother of a 4-month-old, was driving the car when she was shot and killed.
Alexander said the suspects were after her nephew.
“This girl is young. My nephew is young. I mean, this is a small community, but these people need to come together and get these guns off the streets,” she told Action News Jax’s Robert Grant.
The shooting is just across the street from New Mt. Moriah Christian Ministry. The pastor, Anthony Britton, said neighbors and the faith community need to work together to stop the violence.
“Our message is West St. Augustine and St. Johns is our home, and we’re going to protect it any way we can,” he said.
The community is still healing from another shooting on the same corner that happened back in November 2018.
Lavert Durden, 28, was gunned down on Herbert Street.
UPDATE 10:55 P.M.:
The SJSO confirmed one person has died after a shooting in West St. Augustine Wednesday.
Officers responded to reports of shots fired at Christopher Stree and Herbert Street and found the victim’s car crashed and transported the victim to Flagler Hospital where they were pronounced dead.
Investigators are currently interviewing witnesses and did not provide any further details on a suspect, or motive for the shooting.

The investigation is near Christopher Street and Aiken Street.
