ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — Tuesday, Dec. 31 is an important deadline in the $144 million beach renourishment project for St. Johns County.
The project that will take 50 years to complete aims to protect homes, the beach and A1A, but the county needs oceanfront homeowners along the 3-mile stretch of Serenata Beach Club to San Pelayo Court, to give engineers access to their easements.
It’s where Hurricane Dorian and other strong storms ate away at the coast.

The county and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said they’ll use sand from the inlet to build dunes 18 feet high. Renourishment will happen every 12 years and as needed -- such as after any major storm.
Action News Jax reported three weeks ago when the county said they were still waiting for permission from at least two dozen homeowners.
