St. Johns school district to hold meetings on potential zoning changes for high school set to open in 2021-2022 school year

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — The St. Johns County School District said it is holding two town hall meetings next week to discuss potential attendance zoning changes for a new high school that will be under construction soon and is slated to open for the 2021-2022 school year.

“High School HHH” as the district is calling it will be located off International Golf Parkway near State Road 16. Other possible attendance zone changes relate to the SilverLeaf Development.

The two meetings will be held on the following days at the following locations:

• Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 6:30 p.m. at Allen D. Nease High School, located at 10550 Ray Road, Ponte Vedra, FL 32081

• Thursday, Feb. 27 at 6:30 p.m. at Bartram Trail High School, located at 7399 Longleaf Pine Parkway, St. Johns, FL 32259

A proposed zoning plan is being finalized and will be shared at the town hall meetings, along with an opportunity for the public to provide comment, the school district said. The same information will be presented at both meetings and school board members and district staff will be in attendance.

Currently, the proposal impacts the current attendance zones and students at the following schools: Allen D. Nease High School, Bartram Trail High School, Creekside High School, Liberty Pines Academy, Mill Creek Academy, Pacetti Bay Middle School and Switzerland Point Middle School.

The district said the meeting will also discuss plans for future High School III. High School III is in the planning stages and expected to be constructed within three to four years. The future discussions of High School III could impact areas currently zoned for Allen D. Nease High School and Bartram Trail High School.

St. Johns parent Lauren Wolfe received the email from the school district Wednesday night.

“I just saw redistricting, and you know, eye roll because it seems like it happens so often.” Wolfe said.

Wolfe said her kids will be anchored to Bartram Trail H.S. through an academy, but she’s worried about losing the bus.

“It’s concerning, especially with the kids already in school, and they have their friends and all that,” Wolfe said. “So, I’ll definitely go to that meeting and see.”
