PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — UPDATE 2/11/2020:
The cause of death of both teens has been ruled “death by gunshot wound,” according to SJSO.
The 17-year-old’s death has been ruled a homicide, and the 18-year-old’s death a suicide. The circumstances surrounding why the incident occurred and if any intent was involved is still under investigation, police say.
The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office said detectives are investigating the deaths of two young men as a homicide-suicide.
ORIGINAL STORY:
SJCSO said deputies responded to a call to a house on Solano Cay Circle around 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning, where the caller reported “two deceased male individuals” in a bedroom of the house. Police said they were 17 and 18 years old.
Though SJCSO said the cause of death will be determined by a autopsies, no suspects are being sought as the investigation indicates that both young men died as part of a homicide-suicide.
On Sunday, the Sheriff’s Office said preliminary investigation indicated that the deaths were due to a murder-suicide, but updated Action News Jax on Monday that the deaths are being investigated as a homicide-suicide.

The teens have not yet been identified. The St. Johns County School District said it has not been contacted by the Sheriff’s Office to indicate any of their students were involved.
