JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — "I'm not going to lie. I went to 0 to 100."
It all happened Feb. 6. Chante Brumell sent her 9 year-old son to school and got a startling report a short time later.
"He told me a substitute hit him in the back of the head with a book. I said, 'Why would she do that?' He said, "Because I was laughing. Our friend in the class did something funny,'" she explained.
According to the boy, that substitute was Claudia Allen. We reached out to her on Facebook and asked about the allegation, but she never responded.
We did get quite the reaction from parents at Westview K-8 where the incident allegedly happened.
"Uh oh. Oh no. I'd go up to that teacher and raise hell," Tanya Shipes said.
We asked Duval County Public Schools about Allen's future, and was told as a sub, she was hired by Kelly Services. It took a while, but we finally got this statement from them:
"We are always concerned about any allegations of inappropriate behavior and take these matters very seriously. We are working with the school in investigating this matter. It would be inappropriate to comment any further at this point."
The Department of Children and Families has also started an investigation. Several students who were in class with the boy at the time gave statements, and backed up his story. Two were even allegedly grabbed by the collar by the same sub.
It's behavior Brumell said she won't tolerate.
"He was shook. He was scared. He was intimidated and I just can't believe this happened to my son," Brumell said.
Brumell and her husband plan to press charges against Allen. As for their son, they took him to the hospital to get his head looked out -- and learned he has a scalp contusion.
