Two restaurants closed by health inspectors had issues with pest control.
Action News Jax anchor Romney Smith visited Wasabi Japanese Restaurant at the River City Market Place in Jacksonville. A health inspector saw 23 live roaches, dead roaches and the salmon had no paperwork proving parasite destruction.
Wasabi Japanese remained closed during three follow-up inspections and was allowed to reopen for business after the fourth follow-up inspection.
Smith asked an employee about the situation when it was temporarily shut down. The employee said we would need to speak with a manager and at the time there was no manager scheduled to work. Smith asked for a phone number to call, and all she could give was the restaurant’s phone number.
At Costa Del Sol in Lake City, a health inspector saw 16 live roaches, dead roaches and the dish machine sanitizer was too weak to clean. Costa Del Sol was temporarily shut down and allowed to reopen after four follow-up inspections.
Health inspectors at The Floridian in St. Augustine saw live flies in the kitchen and witnessed the cook wash their hands with cold water instead of hot water. Inspectors issued a stop sale on five items, including polenta and beef due to temperature abuse. The follow-up visit met all inspection standards.
