Thief snatches semi-truck from a hotel parking lot in Lake City

A man is in jail after allegedly stealing a semi drivers truck from the parking lot of a Lake City hotel.

In a release, Sergeant Mike Lee of the Lake City Police Department says on Thursday, Feb. 11, the victim, who was staying at the hotel, looked out his window and saw someone in his truck.

After running downstairs, police say the victim observed the suspect leaving the parking lot in just the cab of the semi. The thief had dropped the trailer and left it behind.

Investigating officers were able to obtain GPS data from the business that owned the vehicle, which was traveling south on Interstate 75.

LCPD coordinated with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office who were able to intercept the vehicle and arrest the driver.

The suspect, Yunior Rodriguez, 41, is being held at the Marion County Jail on charges of Grand Theft.
