Thousands take part in The 26.2 with Donna

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — More than 10,000 runners bundled up early for the 26.2 With Donna marathon in Jacksonville Sunday morning.

The marathon is in its ninth year and is the only race in the United States dedicated to raising money for breast cancer research and care.

It's an annual race that is personal to many participants.

One mother daughter team said they wouldn't miss it.

"I'm a 12 year survivor. This is our fourth marathon together," said survivor Carol Dillon.

The event is organized by the Donna Deegan Foundation.

Deegan is a three-time breast cancer survivor who organized the marathon as a way to galvanize support and inspire the effort to find a cure.

She said each person crossing the finish line is one step closer to a cure.

Since its first year, the event has raised about $4 million dollars for breast cancer research.

New this year, supporters could track where runners were in the race.

All they had to do was download the app and enter their runner's bib number.

Deegan said final fundraising numbers won't be available for a few days, but the organization has raised more than $400,000 so far this year.
