JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Seven weeks. That’s how long a Tennessee Titans fan had been in a medically-induced coma after she suffered a heart attack leaving the Titans-Jaguars game in early January.

Andrew Prue and his wife Alexis are counting their blessings after this health scare.

“We got back to the hotel and we got up to the room and it was less than two minutes of being in the room. She looked at me and said, ‘Andrew I can’t breathe, you need to call 911, I think I’m going to die,” Prue said.

Prue said he called 911 instantly, and when medical officials arrived, they loaded Alexis into an ambulance.

He said he didn’t know what was happening with his wife, so he followed her to the hospital. But before the ambulance arrived, her health started to decline.

“I couldn’t see in the windows, but from what I’ve been told she was going into cardiac arrest,” Prue said.

Since that heart attack, Alexis was placed in a medically induced coma for seven weeks at Ascension St. Vincent’s Hospital in Jacksonville. She had little to no body movement or verbal response.

She was later transported to Baptist Health to be placed in the Neuro ICU for better treatment.

Prue said it was just days ago that his wife’s medical condition began to improve.

“It wasn’t up until last Wednesday that she actually interacted with me verbally. The week before, that was the first emotional reaction she had towards me when I played our wedding song for her. She actually grimaced and made a really sad face and started to cry.”

That’s when Prue knew his wife was coming back around.

He said he understands his wife’s road to recovery will be long, but with her wedding band and his deceased father’s ring attached to a necklace he wears every day, he believes his wife is going to be okay.

“I said if I’m going to put her beside him, I know that he is going to be looking out for her, and I know he has as well,” Prue said.

This health scare has caused several changes for the Prue family.

Prue and his daughter India, a toddler, had to relocate to Jacksonville from Myrtle Beach to manage Alexis’ care.

“My life has been flipped upside down, from 50 days ago. Since then, I have had to get an apartment temporarily in Jacksonville,” Prue said.

Prue said the Jacksonville community and other communities have opened their arms to him and his family, raising almost $60,000 through GoFundMe for her recovery efforts. Prue said he is grateful for the love Jacksonville has shown.

“I just simply tweeted out, ‘hey please pray for my wife.’ The overwhelming amount of response has been amazing,” Prue said.

The next step for Alexis Prue is being discharged from the hospital and her husband said that could be any day now. She will then attend rehab.
