Tolls will soon be collected in Duval County for the first time since 1988.
The Florida Department of Transportation says toll collection on phase 1 of the road, which runs from I-10 to Blanding Boulevard, will start in early 2019.
The proposed 46-mile toll road will connect Duval, Clay and St. Johns counties once complete.

Driver Wesley Holly told Action News Jax, “Being able to get from I-10 all the way to St. Augustine is going to be a bonus … going down to St. Augustine will be much quicker.”
Others said it’s not as much of a bonus when you factor in the cost.

According to F-DOT each toll will cost between 20 and 85 cents for two axel vehicles.
“I’m not happy about the fact that tolls are coming into the area … tolls are a nuisance,” explained driver Carol Hambright.
The second part of the project is set to start in February and estimated to cost $229 million.
