Eight Northeast Florida counties are now included in President Joe Biden’s emergency declaration related to Tropical Storm Elsa, according to a release from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The counties are eligible for federal emergency aid to supplement state, local and tribal response efforts for areas affected by Tropical Storm Elsa beginning on July 4 and continuing.
On Friday, Baker, Bradford, Clay, Duval, Nassau, Putnam and Union counties were added to the emergency declaration approved by the President on July 4, 2021.
On Thursday, Columbia County was added to the emergency declaration.
The complete list of Florida counties included in the emergency declaration is as follows: Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Charlotte, Citrus, Clay, Collier, Columbia, Duval, DeSoto, Dixie, Franklin, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Hardee, Hernando, Hillsborough, Jefferson, Lake, Lafayette, Lee, Levy, Madison, Manatee, Marion, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Nassau, Pasco, Pinellas, Putnam, Sarasota, Sumter, Suwannee, Taylor, Union and Wakulla.
“Under the emergency declaration, FEMA is authorized to coordinate all disaster relief efforts which have the purpose of alleviating the hardship and suffering caused by the emergency and, to provide appropriate assistance for required emergency measures authorized under the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act, to save lives, to protect property, public health and safety, and to lessen or avert the threat of a catastrophe,” the release said.
On Wednesday, tornadoes from Tropical Storm Elsa affected Northeast Florida, including a confirmed EF-0 tornado in Columbia County and a confirmed EF-1 tornado in Duval County.
