A 2004 black Ford Escape was overtaking other traffic when it merged into the outside line and crashed into a Freightliner flatbed truck.
The Escape was driven by Michael Hill, 41. He is listed in critical condition. His passenger, Paul Lavallee, 55, was also listed in critical condition. Hill was airlifted to Orange Park Medical Center, and Lavallee was airlifted to Memorial Hospital.
The accident happened right in front of Coggin Nissan on the Southside. Two trauma helicopters were seen landing in the middle of the highway after two patients were removed from the SUV.
