JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Gate gas station off Busch Drive on Jacksonville’s Northside is popular with customers and its clerks are too.
“We come here every morning, every day for gas and coffee; my kids come here a lot,” said Randi Estrada, a customer.
JSO said at least two armed persons robbed the store around 5:30 Sunday morning.
“The clerk pushed the panic button, so it was automatically dispatched. But there was another clerk in the store who also called 911,” Sgt. Craig Waldrup.
When investigators arrived they found one clerk shot and another terribly shaken. The robbers were already gone.
JSO said the store clerk died at the hospital.
The frustration with crime is building on the Northside.
Victim’s advocate Linda Dayson is praying for peace and hoping for justice.
“It’s real sad to see that you have people that maybe trust God to work these crazy hours and be on their job for somebody to come in and not just rob them, not only shoot them but kill them,” said Dayson.
“I’m worried about the clerks in there because you get to know people when you come in in the morning time. I’m concerned about those people, I really am,” said John Dupree.
Police say they are looking for a four-door car and at least two suspects. They are working to gather surveillance video and will release it to the public with a better description of the suspects sometime today.
Police did not say if the suspects made it away with any money or items from the store.
The gas station will remain closed during the investigation.
