The UNF Police Department is looking at a sexual assault suspect.
On Saturday, a victim said she was handed a drink outside of the The Flats apartment complex, on campus.
She said she believed she was drugged and sexually assaulted.
The victim could only provide a generic description of the suspect as a Hispanic male around 5 feet 7 inches tall.
Alex Dominguez, a senior who lives in the apartment complex, told Action News Jax Courtney Cole he wishes the police department would share more information about the suspect.
“Because of that vague description, that could put whoever else is living, that might be in that category, in jeopardy, for an unnecessary reason,” Dominguez said.
Another student who lives in The Flats said she's been glad to see more police patrolling the complex.
“Actually, both of my roommates weren't here this weekend, so I definitely made sure my doors were extra locked...if you will,” said Kaley Crawford.
Students Cole spoke to said they feel safer, generally speaking, since the complex is owned by the university.
Cole requested the "calls of service" to The Flats.
She counted more than 100 calls from the first day of class on Aug. 20 through Nov. 5.
Most of the calls were requests to check on property, but there were a handful of calls that were for other things including:
- An investigation
- A follow-up investigation
- Special detail
Action News Jax reported last week that a security report found the number of reported rapes quadrupled in three years at the University of North Florida.
The police chief told us not all of the reports were verified.
Anyone with information is urged to call UNF PD at 904-620-2800.
