“It’s exciting, this whole area is really unique back here,” retired Navy captain Jim Fossa said.
The move wasn’t a quick process. It took four tugboats and about 12-to-15 navy sailors, to make it all possible. But docking the ship took the longest.
“We knew that there was going to be a lot of muck,” President of the Jacksonville Naval Ship Association, Daniel Bean said.

Due to a combination of muck and the low tide, the warship couldn’t dock as close as the crews wanted.
“We are about eight feet short than where we wanted to be, we’ll just extend our brow, which there is a brow that is going to be a little bit longer, but well be right where we wanted to be,” Bean said.
While those factors played a role in docking, Bean said visitors will still be able to get on board.

“I think people will love this opportunity down here to walk along it and just spend the day on the river which is what we are trying to do as a city,” Bean said.
