Video appears to show brawl at Mavericks at Jacksonville Landing

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Some people may be healing from injuries after a fight broke out at the Maverick Club at the Landing over the weekend. It happened during a party after the city granted the business a one week extension to remain open.

A video circulating on social media appears to show several people were seen fighting while someone stood by to record altercations. As time goes on more people begin to jump in the fight.

A flyer posted on the Mavericks Live Facebook page advertised the venue's "last Saturday party ever" and enticed attendees by offering free drinks until midnight.

The flyer said, "18+ WELCOME. BUT 21+ TO DRINK, STRICTLY ENFORCED!"

When Action News Jax reached out to the city, Mayor Curry's chief of staff, Brian Hughes, said: "Bar and restaurant owners are required to operate safely and in compliance of laws and regulations, no matter where they are located. We will speak with the operator Monday morning but anticipate this is the final event at that location."

Documents show it isn’t the first time a fight has broken out there. There was a law suit filed against the Mavericks in April of 2019 because of a fight that happened in February of 2018 where an employee was allegedly injured. The suit claims police have been called to the establishment more than 100 times in the past few years for violent activity. Some people who saw the video like William Earl said incidents like that are the reason they stay away from young crowds.

“That video just showed one reason why I didn’t want to go because I knew it was going to be wild and crazy it’s just not my type of crowd,” Earl said.

Most of the remaining businesses at the Landing shutdown on Friday as the city prepares to demolish the property in a few months. It's after the city purchased it recently to settle a long standing dispute with the malls owner.

Although the Mavericks did get a week extension city officials sent out a statement part of which read “ they will speak with the operator Monday morning but anticipate this is the final event at that location.”

It’s unclear if police are investigating or if there were any arrest.
