WARE COUNTY, Ga. — A police officer in Waycross has been suspended after accidentally firing his gun inside his apartment.
The bullet went through his wall and narrowly missed children next door.
Germani Braswell, the children’s mother said, “It was so loud. It sounded like someone was actually in our apartment.”
Braswell was inside her apartment with her young kids when they heard what sounded like a gun shot.
“I ran into the living room because my two babies, my 4-year-old and my 1-year-old, was screaming and hollering and crying," Braswell said.
That’s when she found several bullet holes in her walls.

“The scariest part about the whole thing that my babies was in here playing,” Braswell said.
According to this police report, Braswell’s next door neighbor, Waycross Police Officer Stephen Baker, was practicing his shooting techniques.
He unloaded his gun, but he didn’t realize there was one bullet left in the chamber, and fired it.
An accident that Baker didn’t report until after Braswell called the police.
“There’s a time and a place for that and that’s not in an apartment complex,” she said.
Officer Baker has since been suspended without pay for 84 hours, he also must go through firearms training.
But Braswell is still uneasy about the whole thing.
“Are we safe? That’s my main concern making sure that me and my family is safe,” Braswell said.
