Warming centers opening in Jacksonville for Monday night

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The City of Jacksonville has activated the Warming Center Contingency Plan due to the weather.

A warming center will be open overnight on Monday for those who do not have access to adequate heat.

The Legends Center will act as the warming center. It’s located at 5130 Soutel Drive.

The center will be open from 9 p.m. Monday to 9 a.m. Tuesday.

According to a news release, JTA buses will transport people to the center if needed.

Residents are asked to bring the following:

  • Air mattress, blankets, pillows, or other bedding
  • Snacks and medication
  • Games, toys, and books
  • Hygiene and comfort items

Additionally, all COJ Libraries and COJ Community Centers will be open during regular business hours and serve as Warming Centers across Duval County.

The following shelters will also provide cold-weather shelter services:

  • City Rescue Mission: 234 W. State Street, 32202
  • Sulzbacher Center: 611 East Adams St., 32202 – Men, 5455 Springfield Blvd. 32208 – Women and Children
  • Trinity Rescue Mission: 622 W. Union Street, 32202
