JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Original Story: Charter plane skids into St. Johns at NAS JAX, 142 people on board
What we know:
- A Boeing 737 plane slid off the runway at NAS JAX
- There were 136 passengers, military personnel and civilians, and seven aircrews onboard
- At least 19 people were treated at local hospitals after an aircraft ran off the runway into the St. Johns River on Friday night
- There were pets onboard
- Aircraft overran runway 11. Departed right side of runway, impacted low sea wall
- Plane built in 2001; no history of accident or incidents
- Pavement on the runway is not grooved. Grooves allow rain to run off runway quicker
- Reports of heavy rain at the time
