JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Nassau County is bracing for an economic boom that a new 2,900-acre development could bring to the community.
Crews are working on Phase 1 of the Wildlight development in Yulee. Phase 1 of construction includes 1,000 homes and half of a million square feet of restaurants and shop.
“Wildlight in its entirety is about 2,900 acres and the build out of that is probably more like 3,000 residential properties and a few million square feet of commercial property,” Charles Adams VP, Community Development, Raydient Places + Properties VP Charles Adams told Action News Jax.

In addition to the homes and commercial spaces, the community will house a new elementary school with 600 seats ready for students by the start of next school year.
“We have launched the community with the catalyst of Nassau County School District, which needed a new elementary school in that part of the county,” Adams said.
Construction is already underway and people who live in the area say they’re concerned about the development’s impact on traffic.
“It’s kind of scary because the roads, I know that they’re widening the roads but it’s just there’s so much here and it’s really going to congest I’m afraid, and it’s going to be hard to get anywhere,” said Janice Sevcech.
But traffic trouble isn’t a concern for everyone. Many neighbors feel the new community will only bring benefits, like increased property values and new businesses.
“We get a lot of traffic here with tourists and people visiting so we’re used to that,” said Gay Dunlop.
The first phase of construction is expected to take eight to 10 years with the other phase following.
